Working with Packets

What is a Packet?

A packet is a subgrouping of documents within a package and includes attributes about the documents. A package must contain at least one packet and may contain multiple packets.

Packets are often created to support a workflow process (for example, e-signed documents versus wet signed documents).

Packet names are not predefined and can be customized according to your workflow requirements.

Additionally, packets allow you to define the order of the documents within the packet.

The Packet Card

The Packet Card is visible on the Packages page and contains a list of all packets associated with that package. For a new package, the packet card is empty until a packet has been created for that package.

Creating Packets

  1. Click Add Packet to create a packet within this package.
  2. Enter a Packet Name. Click Save to save the packet information. Packet names must be unique for a given package.
Note: When naming your packet, do not use Default as your package name. The packet name Default is a system-reserved name that gets generated when there are documents assigned to a package that are not assigned to any packet; the system still generates these documents and automatically assigns them to a packet named Default.
Note: The packet name is used as the prefix when generating the PDF filename. Avoid using the following special characters within the packet name, as these characters have special meaning to Windows and may result in unexpected filenames or errors during processing:
    • \
    • /
    • :
    • *
    • ?
    • <
    • >
    • |
    • &
    • ' (straight)
    • " (straight)
    • ‘ or ’ (smart)
    • “ or ” (smart)
  3. Click Start Adding to open the Edit Doc List. Use this page to select which documents from the list of available documents to include in the packet. (The available documents are those previously added to the package.)
Note: You may use search critieria when adding documents to packets, which may allow you to more easily locate which documents to include within the packet.
    • The search function is available on both the left and right panels and work independently.
    • The search limits the results to only those documents that match the search criteria.
    • The search applies to the Document ID only.
    • The search is dynamic partial text: results are returned when a match is found anywhere within the Document ID value.
    • The search may contain letters, numbers, and/or the following special characters: underscore ( _), comma (,), and period (.).
Click X in the search field to clear the characters in the field and remove the filter.

Defining Document Order

  • Documents can be ordered within the packet's document list. Documents are generated and returned by Expere in the order they are received. Therefore it is advantageous to specify the document order when setting up your packet.
  • You may individually add documents to the packet, or you may select multiple documents.
  • You may modify the order of documents that are added to the packet. To order documents within your document list, click the # field and then enter a number to specify a position in which to place the document.
    • Only positive whole numbers can be entered, 0 or greater. Entering 0 or 1 places the document at the top of the list.
    • If the number entered is greater than the number of documents in the list, the program displays a warning about the range of numbers you may enter and disables the Apply button until an acceptable number is entered.
    • When a position is specified for a selected document, all other documents in the list reorder accordingly.

Removing a Document from a Packet

Documents can be removed from packets in one of two ways:

  • Single Document: On the Packet Details page for the packet for which you wish to remove documents, click Edit. On the popup document list, hover over the document name for the document you wish to remove. Click the red X to the right of the document name to remove the document from the list. Click Done on the Edit Doc List.
  • All Documents: On the Packet Details page for the packet for which you wish to remove documents, click Edit. On the popup document list, click Remove All to remove all documents from the packet. Click Done on the Edit Doc List.

Deleting a Packet

On the Packets card, click the button associated with the packet you wish to delete. Click Delete on the popup menu. A popup message allows you to confirm the deletion. Once deleted, a packet is no longer available in the application. Click Save on the Package Details page.

Additional Notes

  • Documents may be shared between packets.
  • We recommend having all documents within a package associated with at least one packet. Any documents assigned to a package that are not associated with a packet will still generate during Expere processing, provided the document passes autoselection rules, but will be assigned to a separate packet named "Default" during processing.
  • Documents that are included within any packet are indicated by a green checkmark In Packet indicator on the Package Details page.
