The Relationship of Barcodes, Metadata, and Document Properties

Document Properties

Within the package document list, click Properties for any document to view the Document Properties popup window. This window is where the metadata values are defined for the selected document.

Applying Metadata Values to a Document

The metadata values available within the Document Properties popup window are those defined earlier in the Define Metadata card. Refer to Define Metadata.

Enter metadata values for any or all of the metadata fields on the Document Properties popup window.

Note: When entering metadata values, any leading or trailing spaces will be removed when processing an Expere Document Service request.
The metadata value you enter for each Metadata Title is limited to 255 characters or less. Additionally, the following special characters are not allowed within the metadata value:
  • Quotes (standard and smart; double and single)
  • forward slash /
  • back slash \
  • Ampersand &

Metadata and Barcodes

Metadata values entered on the Document Properties popup window can be used within your barcode configuration. Refer to the following topics for additional information on using metadata within your barcode configuration.

If metadata titles are included within the barcode pattern, note that each barcode symbology varies with regard to the amount of data it can contain.
