Generating and Authoring PDF Outputs for Accessibility

The Expere® Engine and Authoring Tools allow you to author and generate tagged PDF content to be screen reader accessible, compatible with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 as verified by the Adobe Acrobat DC accessibility checker.

Accessibility features in a tagged PDF document allow users to read, listen to, and interact with documents with the aid of screen reading software. This guide explains how to both author content for accessibility and generate accessible PDF outputs for testing and production use.

  • The Meeting Requirements for Accessibility section describes how to author content with specific accessibility features using the Requirements Editor to enhance the customer experience from a readability perspective. It also describes how to render a tagged PDF for testing purposes.
  • The Generating Production Documents as Tagged PDFs section describes how to enable the Expere Engine to generate tagged PDF outputs supporting accessibility features such as screen readers to provide audio reading of documents.
Note: See the API Inputs section for details on submitting requests to enable Tagged PDFs
