Time period in which the SAR must be filed

You must file the SAR no later than 30 calendar days after you initially detect facts that may constitute a basis for filing a SAR. You have an additional 30 calendar days if you need it to identify a suspect. But you must then file within this second 30-day period even if you have not been able to identify a suspect. [12 CFR 21.11(d)] You must also give immediate telephone notice to the appropriate law enforcement authority and your regulatory agency if the violation is ongoing. [12 CFR 21.11(d)]
