Paying Bank's Responsibilities

Although many persons reading this manual will be employees of banks that are not acting as returning banks, we encourage everyone to read this section. We feel that understanding the returning bank’s role and responsibilities in the return check process will improve your understanding of the entire check-collection process which, in turn, will help you to better understand your bank’s role as depositary and paying bank.

When we refer to “you” in this section, we are referring to you in your role as a returning bank rather than as a paying or depositary bank.
