Roles, Features, and Other Required Steps

This task explains how to perform the following:

  • Add roles and features
  • Configure Windows Features for Server 2012
  • Set up HTTPS bound to a valid certificate
  • Windows Server 2012 users: Perform Windows Server 2012-related prerequisites
Note: Additionally, verify .NET Framework 4.6.2 is installed; however, we recommend 4.7.2.
  1. From the Server Manager: select the Roles option in Server Manager. Click Add Roles and Features.
  2. Click Server Selection option, then confirm your server, then click Server Roles.
  3. Verify Web Server (IIS) is installed as a Role. Expand Web Servier (IIS), then select Web Server and Management Tool.
  4. Enable Application Server. By default, the following items are enabled:
    • .NET Framework 4.5 Features , then WCF Services, HTTP Activation.
    • Windows Process Activation Service
  5. Click Add Required Role Services to enable these services. Click Next, then Install.
  6. Select the Features option.
  7. Verify .NET Framework 4.5 Features / WCF Services / HTTP Activation, and Windows Process Activation Service are enabled. Click Next through the remaining screens, then Install.
  8. Windows Server 2012 - Prerequisites: navigate to the Windows Features dialog in the Control Panel. Verify that HTTPS is bound on the web server with a valid certificate.
  9. Windows Server 2012 - Prerequisites: Navigate to the Windows Features dialog in the Control Panel. Under Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 Advanced Services, select WCF Services.
