How do I set up barcodes that print on documents?
Barcode settings can be set up on the Organization page for an account in Administration. The settings determine how the barcode prints on the PDF that results from generating documents on the Print page.
The following settings are available.
- Pattern: Pattern templates can used and updated. You can also create your own pattern using custom text. Drag and drop into the field to set up the order the pattern will be selected. The options will be specific to each transaction and/or document. The text you enter will be the same for all the barcodes. The pattern will not be printed if the 2D Type has been selected in the Barcode type.
- Barcode Type: Your imaging system will read the following barcode types:
- Barcode 128 will apply a barcode using Code 128. Code 128 is a high-density barcode that is used for alphanumeric or numeric-only barcodes and uses all 128 ASCII characters.
- Barcode 2D produces a barcode based on the PDF 417 definition. There will not be a text representation above the barcode on the document.
- Barcode 39 will apply a barcode using Code 39 (3 of 9, 3.9). Code 39 is a variable length, discrete barcode that uses 43 characters including uppercase letters (A through Z), numeric digits (0 through 9) and a number of special characters (-, ., $, /, +, %, and space). This type of barcode uses the extended mode which means: “Extended Code 39 is an updated version of Code 39, which uses combinations of those same encoded characters to allow it to represent the entire range of 128 ASCII characters, including punctuation and special symbols, as well as lower case letters. It is generally used for military and automotive purposes.” Also, if the scanner is decoding a plus sign between characters in Code 39 barcodes, go to your programming guide and set up the scanner to read full ascii code 39 to solve the issue.
If you leave the Barcode Type empty, the barcode will not be printed on the document.
- Horizontal Alignment: The location of the barcode can be defined it you do not want the barcode to fit the width of the page.
- Barcode Coverage: Select to print the barcode on all the pages or only on the first one.
- Use Cover Page: Select this option to provide a Cover Page with the barcode for any documents that do not support barcodes according to your organization's policy.
