When HMDA Applies is selected, how is the Universal Loan Identifier (ULI) created?
Essentially, the ULI is your organization's 20-digit Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) followed by up to a 23 additional digit loan or application number plus a two-character check digit.
The LEI is entered in the Charter section of the Organizations page within administration. After it is entered, the LEI will display in the HMDA area on the Loan Definition page. The Loan Number entered will default to the ULI and will continue to default any changes to the Loan Number until you manually change the value in the ULI. If you delete the defaulted value from the ULI, the Loan Number will re-default. The two-character check digit is calculated based on the LEI and loan number and will update when either the LEI or loan number portion of the ULI changes.
- The ULI may be letters, numerals, or a combination of letters and numerals therefore any special characters in the Loan Number will be removed when defaulted to the ULI.
- The ULI must be unique within the organization. If entering letters and/or numbers that have already been used on another transaction within your organization, you will receive validation on the ULI alerting you the ULI must be unique.
- The ULI cannot include any information that could be used to directly identify the applicant or borrower.
