SFX File Security

SFX files are security-protected to ensure that unauthorized designers do not make changes to the files and unauthorized users do not access the forms in the files. There are two levels of protection:

Level Description
User Authorizes the retrieval of the form in end-user applications.
Administrative Gives the authority to make changes to the form itself.

There is a separate authentication password for each level. You assign the passwords when you save the form. They are embedded in the SFX file when the form is saved.

The administrative password is required to make changes to the file. If an SFX file has no administrative password, no one can make changes to the form after it is saved. If you do not assign an administrative password, you will not be able to retrieve the file at all in I-32 Forms Design 6.

The user password is optional. You do not have to assign one unless you want to restrict the persons who can open the form in the end-user environment. If you want to use one, you can assign it when you first save the file, or you can wait until the file is shipped to the end user. If a user password is applied to an SFX file, it must be used to open the form by anyone who does not have access to the administrative password. If there is no user password, anyone can open the form.

Note:

The user password is not required to retrieve files in I-32 Forms Design 6, as SFX files can be retrieved on the administrative password alone.
