The Screen Layout

The screen has three distinct panes:

Pane Description
Form tree pane Displays two different views of the contents of your form—the FormView tree and the DataView tree—in a tree format, much like the file view in the left pane of Windows Explorer. The FormView tree provides a view of the form pages and their associated overlays. The DataView tree displays your data field objects.
Property pane Displays the property pages for the active (selected) object. The property pages are where you assign the attribute values to your objects.
Form display pane Displays the drawing area where you design your form layout.
Note: If you are familiar with I-32 Featuring Editor, you will find the screen very similar to the one you see in the featuring window.

The title bar

The title bar on the screen contains the name and path of your form file:

If the file needs saving, you will see an asterisk by the file name.

The menu bar

The menu bar contains menus for the functions and commands that are applicable to the screen as a whole. Operations on individual objects are performed from context menus. Context menus are activated by right-clicking on the object in either the form tree pane or the form display pane.

To select from the main menu:
  1. Click on the main menu item that contains the command or option you want. The menu drops down.
  2. Click on the option you want:
    • If the option is followed by an ellipsis (…), a dialog box appears when clicked.
    • If the option is followed by , a submenu will drop down from the item.
    • If the option has neither nor , the selected command will be executed.
  3. If your selected option displays a submenu, select your next option from the submenu.
To use a context menu
  1. Right-click on the object you want to select the command for. The context menu will appear on the screen.
  2. Select your option, just as you would from a menu on the menu bar.

For the most part, the context menus and the menu bar menus do not overlap. Your functions will be on one or the other. The instructions in this manual will tell you when you need to use a context menu for a function.
