Creating Floating Objects

To create a floating object, you set the Anchoring properties. Objects can be anchored horizontally, vertically, or both. Horizontal anchoring is based on the position of the left and/or right margin and is defined by the Horizontal anchoring properties. Vertical anchoring is based on the position of the top and/or bottom margin and is defined by the Vertical anchoring properties. There are five possible settings for each. For the Horizontal anchor, you can select:

None No anchoring is applied to the object.
Left Margin The horizontal position of the object is based on the distance of the left side from the left margin.
Right Margin The horizontal position of the object is based on the distance of the right side from the right margin.
Both Margins The position of the left side of the object is based on the distance from the left margin. The position of the right side is based on the distance from the right margin. The object will stretch or shrink horizontally.
Center The object is positioned based on the distance between its horizontal center and the horizontal center of the page between the two margins.

For the Vertical anchor, you can select:

None No anchoring is applied to the object.
Top Margin The vertical position of the object is based on the distance of the top of the object from the top margin.
Bottom Margin The vertical position of the object is based on the distance of the bottom of the object from the bottom margin.
Both Margins The position of the top of the object is based on the distance from the top margin. The position of the bottom of the object is based on the distance from the bottom margin. The object will stretch or shrink vertically.
Center The object is positioned based on the distance between its vertical center and the vertical center of the page between the two margins.
