Backup Copies

Saving backup copies minimizes the amount of work lost due to computer error or system problems. It is always a good idea to save backup copies in the event that a problem occurs with your latest copy. Backup copies are given a .~sfx, .~xtempl, or .~xml extension.

To create a backup copy when you save a form

1. Open the Tools menu and select Options to display the Options dialog.

2. Check the Create backup copy when saving check box on the Workspace tab:

3. Click to close the Options dialog.

To open a backup copy

1. Do one of the following to display the Open Form dialog:

  • Click on the tool bar.

  • Open the File menu and select Open.

  • Press + .

2. Type the following in the File name field:

*.*

3. Click to display all files in the directory instead of just the SFX or XTemplate form files.

4. Find the backup file. It will have the same name as your file and a .~sfx, .~xtempl, or ~.xml extension.

5. Double-click on the file name:

  • If you are opening a backup SFX file and chose not to be prompted for a password in your default settings, the file will open immediately.

  • If you are opening a backup SFX file and chose to be prompted for the password in your default settings, the Authenti­cation dialog will appear. Enter the administrative password for the file and click to open the file.

  • If you are opening a backup XTemplate file, the file will open immediately.

To replace your existing file with the backup

1. Open the File menu and select Save As.The Save Form As dialog will ap­pear.

2. Select the name of the file you want to replace with the backup copy.

3. Click . A message will appear, asking if you want to replace the existing file.

4. Click :

  • If you are saving an SFX file, the Authentication dialog will appear with the current passwords for the file you are replacing. Click to accept the current passwords and your file will be saved.

  • If you are saving an XTemplate file, the file will be saved immediately.
