Using Tabs

A tab is a preset indent for your text. Tabs are helpful when you want to main­tain standard in­dentation for paragraphs or lines of text. You can also use them to indent and align text with­in a text box—a list or outline, for example. You can use tabs in both text boxes and data fields. They do not apply to system text objects because you do not enter data in system text boxes.

When you set a tab space, tabs will be set for the text box or data field based on the value you enter. For example, if you set it to .5", there will be a tab every ½". If you set it to .25", there will be a tab every ¼". Whenever is pressed, the insertion point moves to the next tab position and any text to the right of the insertion point is adjusted accordingly.

The default tab spacing for text boxes is .3". The default setting for data fields is 0". For paragraph text, you should set it to whatever you want for an indent for the paragraph. For data fields, you should probably leave it at 0 (which disables it) unless it is a field with paragraph text entry (e.g., a property description).

To set tab spacing

1. Select the text box or data field you want to set the tab space for.

2. Click on the Tab Space value field and enter the amount of space you want:

To place a tab in your text

Press on the keyboard whenever you want to insert a tab. Your insertion point will move to the next tab. All text in front of your insertion point will move with it.
