Placing Lines under Data Fields

The colored data field box that you see on your form is always displayed on the screen so you can tell where you are supposed to enter data. However, when the form is printed, the data field shading does not show up. For this reason, you may want to underline your data fields so you can see where data has been entered when the form is printed. You can do this by combining lines with your data fields. You can also do the same thing with signature fields.

To underline a field

1. Draw a horizontal line under your data field:

2. Select the line color and thickness.

3. Select both the line and the data field:

4. Make the two objects the same length:

  • Click the if the line is longer than the data field.

  • Click the if the line is shorter than the data field.

5. Click the to align the objects horizontally.

6. Click the to align the two objects vertically:

Note:

You cannot use this method to underline inline data fields because inline data fields are flexible in length. To underline an inline data field, apply the underline effect to the font. This will underline whatever characters are typed in the field.
