This section explains how to create a task in Oxygen. The task is recommended information type for creating detailed steps using the <steps> and <step> element.

For more information on working within tasks, specifially certain elements or items within tasks, see the How-to articles section.

NOTE: To eliminate redundancy, each step instructs you to enter data for a specific element (title, paragraph, etc). Always enter data BETWEEN the start <element> and end </element> tags.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Click File/New.

  2. In the New dialog, expand the Framework templates, then DITA, then topic subfolders.

  3. Click Task.
  4. Click Create.
  5. Enter a title between the <title></title> tags.
  6. Enter a short description; this is an optional step and represents the purpose of the task that follows.
  7. By default, the taskbody element appears below the short description element, with a context element contained within the taskbody. A paragraph <p></p> element is contained within the context element. Enter any contextual information inside the paragraph element.
  8. By default, the steps element appears, containing one individual step element. A command <cmd></cmd> element resides within the step element.
  9. To insert additional steps, place the cursor either within the command element, or between the command and step element. Click Enter and select New Step at the top of the resulting list.
