DITA Best Practices : Using Styles in Oxygen: Setting Styles View

The purpose of this article is to provide instruction on how to set your Styles view permanently and to document some of the available options within the Styles dropdown field.

Available Style Options

A number of style options are available within the Styles dropdown.

The following styles should be selected:

  • Basic. This style allows the collapse of the Prolog element, which allows the ability to hide from view all the various metadata items associated within each file. Since there is seldom a need to edit any of these values, having this section hidden is beneficial because it prevents you from having to scroll to find the content you are working with.
  • InfoDev-GRC. This style is intended to visually represent the final output styling for the WKFS GRC authoring style. The following article provides instruction on displaying the GRC styling: How to display the WKFS GRC Authoring Styles

Save My Preferences

In order to retain the styles you are specified as default, you must use the Save My Preferences option to secure your Styles settings.

    1. Once you have changed the Style, then go to Options > Preferences, Click Apply.

    2. Then, save your preferences with Vasont > Save My Preferences.

Vasont Save My Preferences

What does Vasont> Save My Preferences actually save?

  • Save My Preferences saves everything under Options > Preferences.
  • Anytime a change is made under Options > Preferences, the user must Apply and then Vasont > Save My Preferences to write the options to their home folder. This includes changes to attribute values and profiling sets and tag display.  (Home folder would be, for instance, C:\Users\yourname)
